Video Wills

60% of us do not have Wills
Apparently 60% of us (2 out of every 3) do not leave a Will. Making a Will is not just for those leaving an ‘estate’. Although it is very important to leave a Will if you have property and money invested.

If you do not have a Will then you run the risk that your possessions may not go to the people you want them to go to. Very often the tax man takes a slice of your estate if you have not left a Will.

So it is very important to have a Will drawn up. Nobody likes the thought of making a Will but once done you can then forget about it knowing it is there to ensure your estate and possessions will go to the family and friends you want it to.

Wills should be drawn up by legal companies
Drawing up a Will is very straight forward and should always be carried out by a profession legal company of which there are many. The only problem with Wills is that they only allow you to state who gets what  of your estate.

They do not allow you to explain the reasons behind your decisions. Wills do not allow you to say how you feel about the decisions you have come to. Nobody wants to leave our world but sometimes we leave suddenly without telling our loved ones our inner most thoughts.

There may be stories or history behind some of your bequests. There may be family history you can only tell when you are not here anymore. There may be something you wanted to say to someone that can only be said after you have gone. Writing it down in a letter is not always the answer.

A ‘Video Will’ gives the reasons behind your legal Will
Having a ‘Video Will’ may be the answer. A ‘Video Will’ cannot replace a written Will. A written will is the only legal document to distribute your estate but a Video Will will allow you to explain your reasons behind your bequests and allow you say what you want to all those named in your Will.

Nobody knows when we are going to part from this world but at least you can have the comfort to know you have left a messge to all the close family and friend at a time when you was able to.

A written Will should cost between £40 – £70 for a normal couple with a property valued below £640,000. It is the formal part of the process to ensure your hard earned estate goes to the people you intended it to.

A Video Will allow you to add feeling to your decisions
A ‘Video Will’  adds the reasoning behind your decisions. They say we never tell our loved ones, often enough, how we feel about them so a ‘Video Will” can tell them for you. Although you can make your own ‘Video Will’ yourself it is recommended that a Video Will is made in conjunction with a written Will.

My charges to produce a ‘Video Will’ are £125.00 + travel costs.  First the written Will must be completed and verified by a legal solicitor, which can be arranged. Then a meeting is arranged at your home or somewhere important to you at which a video is produced of your bequests. This is a very relaxed arrangement where we spend a couple of hours recording your ‘Video Will’.

Once completed two copies are produced one for you so you can verify its contents. A second copy will be held by us or a third party, you can nominate, for future reference, in case of a dispute.
